First Impressions

I’ve passed Ilam Bakery plenty of times, so I finally decided to drop in and see what their pies are all about. The staff were friendly, the place was tidy, and the pie came out warm and ready to go.

Here’s how the pie stacked up:

• Crust: 8/10 – Flaky and nicely baked, but slightly soft at the base.

• Filling Flavor: 9/10 – The meat was tender, though the gravy lacked punch.

• Texture: 10/10 – Excellent! Great contrast between the outer crust and smooth filling.

• Balance: 9/10 – Well-built pie with good proportions.

• Appearance: 8/10 – Neatly made, but the gravy had a grey-ish tone that dulled the look.

🔍 Notes

• The flavour in the gravy could’ve used a bit more depth—something savoury or herby to lift it.

• The greyish gravy colour was a little unappealing, even though the pie tasted fine.
